I had no time to stop and think.
I had to fight.
I had to hurt.
I had to protect.
Feeling someone behind me, I let loose with the bat, a scream erupting from my throat. Someone caught the bat and wrapped an arm around my waist. I tried kicking out. He dodged my feet and said hurriedly in my ear, “Damn, Strattan. It’s me, Channing. Stop!”
Channing.
He was friendly.
Stop.
I sagged in his arms, looking for Mason. Where was he? He was circling a guy, still fighting.
I started forward, but Channing caught my arm. “Whoa. Chill.”
I growled as I yanked my hand free and started forward again, but Channing grabbed my arm once more.
He got in front of me, holding his other hand up. “Whoa, whoa, whoa. Look. He’s fine. We’re here. He’s got that. Look. Look, Sam.”
My senses began to calm. The black around my eyesight faded. I could see more normally, and the buzzing in my ears subsided. I gulped for breath, tasting salt and dust in my mouth.
Channing was right. Mason’s eyes were deadly, but alert, his mouth set in a flat line. His shoulders were tense, but he looked in control.

Holy Hell!! She's done it again!! Marni Mann is a master at the mind games and WTF moments! She does not disappoint with Beard's story. It's so dark and twisty and HOT! I spent the entire book trying figure out what was happening and what I thought I knew I didn't have a clue about!! And the babies are back to make you cringe amongst other things at the prison that make you wonder if Marni's husband should be sleeping with one eye open! I couldn't put the book down and read it in a matter of hours! And the ending will leave you desperate for more! I can't wait to see what her brilliant twisted mind comes up with next!

However, I do highly recommend that you at least read Resisting Temptation, the third book in the Men of Honor series, since this is where these Characters story began.

 WOW, I am completely blown away by this story. Christopher touched me in a way no other character ever has. I adore this entire series and everything KC Lynn writes but Christopher and Alissa are embedded in my soul forever. An Act of Courage is a book I will never forget, it is so beautiful, heart breaking and so emotionally powerful. My heart was torn out and stomped on and I wanted to toss my kindle across the room a few times, but ultimately it was put back together in the most beautiful way that only KC Lynn can do. This book deserves so much more than 5 Stars!!!

One minute I’m drumming to a beat I could never play on my own then the next I’m flipped around to face him, his fingers digging into my hips possessively. I gasp, my breath racing as I stare back at him.

Something passes between us.

A decision.

A choice.

No more fighting this.

“Fuck complicated.” His earlier words fall past his lips then our mouths become one.

The connection slams into me, sending my heart reeling. Our tongues duel in a beautiful battle, the sound of our passion filling the air as our past ignites.

A growl erupts from him, vibrating against my lips. “You taste as good as I remember.”

I want to tell him the same thing but can’t. All I can think about is his mouth never leaving mine, not even for a second, or it might kill me.

At this moment, I’m not even sure how I survived so long without it—without him.

                Another gasp parts my lips, a fiery whimper purging from me at the cool, hard feel. My back arches, the small touch igniting an inferno in my body.

                “Remember the things I used to do to your body, Alissa? How wet you would get when you’d hear me sing?” he murmurs, dragging the smooth wood down my tummy. “You’d beg me to take your ache away. Remember?”

                “Yes. Do you?” I ask. I’m dying to know. Has he thought of me as much as I have him?

                His admission has my throat burning and heart aching. Aching at the loss of him, of what we could have had.

                What we did have.

                “The good,” he whispers. “The bad.” He slips the stick in my panties. “And the fucking beautiful.”

                “Oh, god, Christopher.” His name spills past my lips on a cry of pleasure as he glides the stick through my wet flesh, slowly working it against my swollen clit.

Abby sat up and called out casually, “Hey, could you toss me my lotion?” She pointed at the dresser behind him. “My legs get so dry here in the summers without it.”
Such an innocent request.
That he didn’t trust for one second.
Connor was sure this was going to be a look but don’t touch deal with her lathering up those gorgeous legs of hers while he sat there like a schmuck.
Staring, no doubt.
He narrowed his eyes and began silently listing all the ways he was going to pay her back for this when her two-week stay here was up.
Slapping an unaffected look on his face, he passed her the lotion, forcibly blocking all the erotic lotion-inspired images that were attempting to take over his brain.

Only a day into their no-sex agreement and already he was closer to begging than he cared to admit.
